After 42 years at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he served as the director of the VA New Jersey Healthalt Care System, Ken Mizrach is now one of SC&I’s newest part-time lecturers.

Mizrach, who instructs the course Health Risk Communications, will teach students how to create healthcare campaigns designed to convince the public to make better-informed decisions about their health, without making them feel as if they are being lectured. In addition, students will also learn how to design campaigns to help healthcare professionals more effectively communicate with their patients so their advice is better heard and understood.

“I want to continuously learn and contribute to the fine Rutgers tradition by providing strong leadership in the faculty,” said Mizrach regarding his new position at SC&I.

“I have a real passion and enjoyment for teaching students,” noted Mizrach, “Especially those interested in working in the fields I have been working in for the past 42 years.”

Speaking about the years he directed the VA Hospitals in New Jersey, Mizrach said, “Working that long for such an important agency was a real honor because I feel very strongly about veterans and the service they provided to us and our country. To pay them back by being the steward to the medical centers and services they’ve earned was a privilege.”

When asked why he decided to teach for Rutgers, Mizrach responded, “Rutgers is a great school. When I was offered the opportunity to come teach at Rutgers, there was no doubt. It’s an exciting place to work, the students are really tremendous, and it’s part of the Big 10.”

Before becoming a part-time lecturer at SC&I, Mizrach taught graduate-level courses at Seton Hall University.
